Lloyd's Portable Phonograph

I found this Lloyd's portable phonograph at a garage sale back in June.  It's a model PH-41 from 1965. I meant to blog about it much sooner since to me it brings to mind thoughts of Summer and taking your favorite stacks of vinyl to the beach or camping.  With October and the great Countdown to Halloween beginning tomorrow , this is a last ditch effort to throw it out there for your review and approval.

The Sealtest Food Adviser, Number 71

Another recipe booklet from my last find.  From 1948, the early spring edition of The Sealtest Food Adviser, brought to you from the fine folks at St. Louis Dairy.

Bring a girl roses and she'll reward you with crackers and dairy products.

Dragon Dominoes

When I was a kid, I thought dominoes were strictly for standing up and knocking over like, well, so many dominoes.  When I was about 12, my brother taught me to play and we spent one summer doing nothing but.  It's been a long time since I've played a game.  I found these Halsam Dragon Dominoes at a garage sale last weekend for 25 cents.

La Choy Bean Sprouts, 1935

Why post a picture of a La Choy Bean Sprout can label from 1935?  Because someone decided to save it for 80 years and who am I to end that legacy? Besides, I couldn't find another example of it on the internet and therefore must be preserved for future generations.

Garage Sale Finds: saving one vintage can label for posterity at a time.

Do Mutant Chickens Dream of Electric Skillets?

It's titled "Almost All About Chicken" for a reason.  What they don't tell you, you don't wanna know.

Superb Recipes for Velveeta

Velveeta is one of those food products you just eat and try not to worry about what's in it.  And who knew there were so many uses for it beyond Rotel dip?

Dr. Gaymont's Yogourt

I can't resist buying these recipe flyers when I see them...and I see them frequently.  It always amazes me how people hang on to these their whole life.  I came across a fairly sizable cache this weekend, so prepare yourself to be bored stiff entertained with this and upcoming posts.

Dad's Puzzler

I know posts have been scant around here lately.  The combination of my illness and the medicine I'm on pretty much make feel me like not doing anything.  I'm not quite recovered, although I'm definitely moving in the right direction.  I do plan on participating in The Countdown to Halloween again this year.  I'm not sure if I can maintain the rate I did last year, but I'll give it my best.

In the meantime, I did manage to drag myself out to a few sales yesterday.  I found a few things including this tray puzzle called "Dad's Puzzler" from 1953.

Clifton's Reopens

While reading my morning blogs, I came across this article on Clifton's Cafeteria.  Immediately, I thought, "Hey, I blogged about that cafeteria a while back."  Then I looked and discovered I never had (unless a reader remembers better than I do.  I couldn't find it doing a search).  I bought these postcards and booklet at a sale over a year ago.

Reader's Digest Ads Condensed, September 1969

Continuing with a new feature I like to call "Reader's Digest Ads Condensed".  Really just an excuse to scan more old ads.  This time from September of 1969.  It was the Age of Aquarius and the age of atrocious recipes courtesy of Cambell's Soups.  Believe me, there ain't nothing "digestive" above them. Enjoy.
