It's been 10 years since I last posted a Children's Play Mate magazine, so I guess it's due. This one dates from October of 1949. I didn't scan it completely, but hit the highlights. The cover features an illustration by Fern Bisel Peat whom I profiled in the 2016 post.
I didn't scan every page, but captured some highlights. Enjoy!

Serving doughnuts from a pumpkin is a surprising idea, but on further reflection is pretty smart -- I think they would remain moist from the humidity inside the pumpkin. Also, interesting to see the Pledge of Allegiance at the end -- the pre-1950s one, before any mention of god is included.
ReplyDeleteI might try that pumpkin donut humidor.
DeleteSo much fun all in one magazine. Must have made kids so happy back when.
ReplyDeleteIt kind of makes this kid happy too.
DeleteI can't decide if that red witch is cute or terrifying.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't it be both?
DeleteWow - this has the original pledge without a mention of a god.
