I remember getting homemade ones in my treat bag, something that sadly can't be done anymore.Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03119827816698009731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8080299065441712068.post-62796917802314377462020-10-15T12:25:33.794-05:002020-10-15T12:25:33.794-05:00Yum yum - popcorn candy recipe sounds good.Yum yum - popcorn candy recipe sounds good.Lady Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12420898768568225649noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8080299065441712068.post-62222501334618197792020-10-15T10:35:49.081-05:002020-10-15T10:35:49.081-05:00I was a regular reader of Highlights, Weekly Reade...I was a regular reader of Highlights, Weekly Reader, and Dynamite (as well as Ranger Rick), but i didn't subscribe to anything except Dynamite, i think. i did probably see Highlights and Ranger Rick in waiting rooms, or else they were passed on to us from other families. who doesn't love Goofus & Gallant? hahaFrankOhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01316107158387079660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8080299065441712068.post-78701292558044378682020-10-15T07:32:03.797-05:002020-10-15T07:32:03.797-05:00Hi DBenson. We never subscribed to children's magazines like these, although I did have a subscription to Dynamite magazine (I was a '70's kid). I do recall stacks of them including Highlights at the barber shop though.
Thanks for stopping by!Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03119827816698009731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8080299065441712068.post-12080974343150464592020-10-15T01:55:00.586-05:002020-10-15T01:55:00.586-05:00Old enough to remember this magazine. Hadn't thought of "Diz and Liz" in decades, but it suddenly flashed back.

Our household also had Humpty Dumpty (great for cutout stuff and occasional articles in comic book format), Calling All Girls (my sister's), and something I think was called Golden Magazine. The mascot was a parrot who was featured in a little comic strip.

There was also a summer edition of Weekly Reader. I recall reading the first episodes of a few different serials but not following through, which now haunts me. I flipped to the jokes first.

I remember being very familiar with Highlights for Children, although we didn't have it at home. Dad was a doctor, and we often waited in the clinic waiting room. Did a lot of people subscribe to that one, or did most kids meet Goofus and Gallant while sitting in waiting rooms?
