What was on TV August 12th through 18th, 1978

Time for this week's TV Guide.  Technically, last week's, but you know me by now.

We can see from the cover shot that David Hartman has a liking for the St. Louis Cardinals and #2 pencils

That poor Pirate.  They couldn't come up with a cute nickname for him too?  Let's remedy that.  From here out, he shall be known as "Scuttlebutt".

Not to be confused with...

TV is still driving viewers to closets, flea markets and garage sales but now it is for that buried treasure that they can parlay into filthy lucre.  Much like I do.

Hey, Sha-na-na.  Dip-dip-dip-dip-dip-Don't, okay?

I believe that's another Cheryl Tieg Virginia Slim ad.

And Marc Siem from Winona, Minn. lays the burn on "Black Sheep Squadron." Take that Robert Conrad!!

I'm not bald! I'm Buddy Lembeck!

Man...Carter and the first 14 presidents get the shaft. How are you going to see them when they are covered in mashed potatoes and gravy?

There are so many questions about the Space-Age "Miniature" Amplifier. Who wants a walnut finish on that thing? Why are so many of the words in quotation marks? Why is the word stereo in quotes and has an asterisk? Why is there no asterisk to reference in the ad? Why do I think this thing isn't even close to pumping out stereo sound. This is a very comic book style ad for TV Guide.

I know where I was at 2:40 on Sunday, August 13th. And those are odd start times. When did networks start padding the movies out with commercials to land on the :00 and :30 start times?

"Mom, Dad, what's film? And why did it have to be developed?"

The fact that Miles uses 2x3's and skips nailing every other joist shouldn't concern you.

Smooth away wrinkles in minutes? I think the Secret Wrinkle is really just spackle.

I'm disappointed the story never mentioned Timex watches. Remember, "it takes a licking and keeps on ticking".

"Tell me, Cecily - Do I look like Will Ferrell and Peter Cushing had a baby?"
I think we all know where Harry Purvis stands on "Love Boat" and "Carter Country".

That's all for this week.  Stay tuned.

  1. Another romp through the past. Never heard of that film that says it is "introducing Erin Gray". I will thank then for that, however. Love her! As for the Foul Play promotion, eeep. That movie, specifically the albino villain, freaked the freak out of me as a kid!

Ha! That's the same thing I thought, Joe. I even meant to put that as a comment.

Hmmm. That sounds deserving of a kindertrauma.com traumafession.

    2. I think I did admit that to them, at one point. I know they covered a movie I was really freaked out by, which thrilled and simultaneously horrified me. LOL
