The Happy Home Maker

I'm always amazed at estate sales by what homeowners chose to hang onto for years.  These days our junk mail goes straight to the trash, but somebody felt this flyer from Grasso Bros. LP Gas was worth saving.  LP Gas, better known these days as simply propane, was the only option in rural areas before natural gas and possibly even electric was available.

There's a Grasso Bros. company still in the St. Louis area, but they are a contracting firm.  I'm not sure if they're related.  Grasso Bros. also carried Fuel Oil (what we used to heat our house growing up) and even coal to those remaining anthracite furnace holdouts.

I guess "Speed-E-Heet" was the propane gas industry's answer to "Reddy Kilowatt".

Throw in the some recipes...

...an ad...

...a few hints...

...some sexist jokes...

...and top it off with a recipe for Applesauce Cake!  Everything a 1950's homemaker needed to be happy.
