Four Color Find

I was out doing a little garage saling Saturday morning (it's been a while) and came across some vintage '60's and '70's comic books.  Some were marked 50 cents, but most were in a box marked 10 cents each.  They're not going to put my kids through college, but there were some neat finds in there and make for excellent bathroom reading.  There were a couple that deserve a standalone blog post, so I'm withholding those for later.  Here are the rest, along with some of the more interesting ads.

T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, Tower Comics, September 1967.  Gil Kane cover.

Noman reminds me of DC's Spectre.

Taking a cue from Marvel, Tower Comics offered t-shirts and sweat shirts.  You have to admire their optimism.

I picked up a few "Marvel Classics Comics" which like "Classic Comics Illustrated" published comic versions of literary works.

Mysterious Island

Tom Sawyer

Treasure Island

Wulf the Barbarian #4
Another Atlas comic as previously discussed.  This time it's "Wulf the Barbarian".

Superman Family Giant #181
This cover reminded me of that freaky episode of Superfriends where the demon Malhavoc changes the Superfriends into Supertrolls.

Black Lightning #1
I've always wondered why DC felt the need to create "Black Vulcan" for the Superfriends cartoon when they already had "Black Lightning".

OMG!  HIS AFRO IS PART OF THE MASK!!!

Korg: 70,000 B.C.
"Korg: 70,000 B.C." was a live action Saturday morning TV show that I barely remember, but it was enough to make me buy this comic.

Little Audrey #98

Little Audrey #95
Someone has made a note on this cover of Little Audrey that's there's a biblical story inside.  I guess that legitimized it for some parent.

T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents #19
"No Ads!" translates to "This series is doing so poorly, we couldn't find any advertisers."

House of Secrets #121
This issue of "The House of Secrets" has a pretty good Halloween-themed story which I will reserve for publication during this year's "Countdown to Halloween".

Justice League of America #122
Some major character was always "dying" in those '70's DC comics.

Action Comics #444
See what I mean?

Plastic Man #11

Shazam! #4

Huey, Dewey and Louie Junior Woodchucks

Action Comics #437

The New Mutants #1

Wanted #4

Yeah, but you'd have to keep turning the lights back on to recharge the pieces until you were done!

  2. LOVE that first cover. ... So, THUNDER Agents and Tower Comics were only around for a few years in the late 1960s, and they were certainly no competition for Marvel and DC. But apparently -- if Wikipedia can be believed -- there's a THUNDER Agents movie in the works for 2018. ... Oh, and here's a link: http://variety.com/2015/film/asia/huayi-brothers-michael-uslan-pact-for-thunder-agents-franchise-1201615725/

  3. Some great finds there. Truthfully 97% of comics aren't worth anything, but like you said, they make good bathroom reading (and other places).
