What was on TV June 13th through 19th, 1981

This week's TV Guide from 1981 features a painted cover of the cast of Trapper John, M.D. , a show which thoroughly confused me when it premiered:  It's the character from M*A*S*H, but it's set in the present and the actor is a different guy?  I don't get it.

The Kodak Sensalite comes with what looks to be the ancestor of the Selfie Stick.

Those are some mighty short shorts there Sears.

This article by Stephen King (no less) summarizes his feelings about children watching horror movies. With all due respect, Mr. King, the trauma you caused me with that floating kid scratching on the window in "Salem's Lot" excludes you from expressing any opinion on this matter.  Which, by the way, reminds me.  The "Salem's Lot" TV movie starring David Soul and Lance Kirwin will be shown in its entirety in two parts this Sunday evening starting at 10:45 my time (check your local listings).

"Will it be there when you need it?"  If it's in my house, the answer is, "No."  I think his hat is in the process of popping off his head due to its inability to contain all that hair.

The wonders of projection TVs, mini-cams and the 8-hour VHS tape (which I've never heard of, but apparently exist).

Going motorcycle riding in your briefs, not recommended.

A small clip of the William Shatner "This Was America" special, just so you know what you missed. Spoiler alert: not much.

Chrissy seems to have shrunk beside Jack and Janet.  Much like her post "Three's Company" career.  I'm kidding.  The thigh-master's great.

They just had to get Richard Dawson's smiling mug in the top half of the page, chronological order or not.

During the 1950's and '60's, kids were offered hope and promise about surviving a nuclear war with such programs as "Duck and Cover". Children in the 1980's (like me) were simply shown movies of humans vaporizing and told "forget it kid".

"Why does Big Oil love Public TV?"  Maybe they're suckers for Masterpiece Theater.

"See Jimmy, that's where the sweatshop used to be and over there is the tenement where a dozen people lived in a two room apartment!"

Man, if "The Amazing World" had just trademarked that name...

10 Across.  She's Flo.  "Polly Holiday".  C'mon, Sarah McGuire!

I've already told you of my years of merciless taunting about wearing Trax<<< shoes while everyone else had Nikes and Adidas. Don't make me revisit them.

In an act that smacks of poor sportsmenship, Eric Heiden turned down an offer to participate in the 2002 Olympic ceremonies because he wasn't asked to light the Olympic torch, an honor that went instead to the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team.

I was never a sports fan, and therefore really wasn't familiar with Reggie Jackson, other than his name, but I did like his candy bar.

LuLu did end up losing 200 pounds and still tours today.

"Captain Kangaroo's 25th Anniversary Special will feature guest-star performances by Jean Stapleton, Barbara Mandrell, Mike Farrell, Todd Bridges, Ja'net Dubois and LaWanda Page."  Pinch me.

The Sony Walkman had become so popular it was being used in other companies' ads.

That's all for now.  Tune in next time.
