RIP Adam West

I wouldn't normally use the same item to blog about twice, but Adam West's passing deserves a mention.

When I was a kid, I took the 1966 Batman show, which I watched in syndication, seriously.  The camp factor went over my head and I took the action at face value.  Batman and Robin were fighting deadly villains and their lives were truly at stake with every cliffhanging ending.

I didn't read the comics (I was a Marvel Comics fan), so I had no background on the character. To me, Adam West was Batman.  I ran around wearing an old shirt for a cape which I would don any time a saw searchlights in the sky.  I know now they were most likely promoting some sales event somewhere, but I was convinced it was the Bat signal. His passing along with Yvonne "Batgirl" Craig's less than two years ago is a sad reminder of how much time has passed since our childhoods.

Holy RIP, Adam West. Thanks for the adventures.

  1. he was by all accounts a very accommodating, gracious guy with his celebrity. i am sure he went through a period where he avoided any mention of being Batman, but after some perspective he embraced it and the fans. RIP, Batman!

  2. That's the only layout I've ever seen that makes me think a model racetrack might be better than a model railroad. It has an interesting "10-lane LA freeway" vibe.

    1. I agree, but you'd have to be Bruce Wayne to have a room large enough to store that thing!
