Leftovers Day 23 -- Good for Life

I picked up this Dr. Pepper bottle opener at a garage sale in St. Louis City some years ago. The sellers had a number of vintage items all priced at $1 or less.

I've seen similar Coca Cola bottle openers, but this was my first Dr. Pepper.  The slogan "Good for Life" (barely visible below Dr. Pepper) was a slogan used from the 1930's to 40's.

What we call a "bottle opener" was actually patented as a "Bottle Cap Puller".

It was patented in 1925 by Thomas C. Hamilton. Hamilton approached the owner of the Newport News Coca Cola Bottling Company, Raymond Brown, with his opener who popularized its use on stationary Coca Cola dispensers.  Rebranded as a Starr (the origin of the name has been lost) Bottle Opener, the company is still in business today and still sells the same opener.
