Leftovers Day 29 -- Green Duck, Smokey Bear

This stamped metal button of Smokey the Bear was made by the Green Duck Company of Chicago and probably dates from the 1950's.

Green Duck was started in 1906 by George Greenburg and Harvey Ducgheisel who used the phonetic sound of the first part of each of their last names to come up with the company's name. Green Duck was known mainly for their campaign buttons, both pinback and in the style of the button above. They moved from Chicago in 1962 to Mississippi and began making Mardi Gras coins and casino chips. They went out of business in 2004.
