Jeepers Peepers

I found this peeping skeleton along with some friends of his at a recent sale.  He fits into your pocket with his hands hanging out, giving the illusion a tiny skeleton is climbing out of your shirt or pants. He also looks like he needs to get a toothbrush in his Halloween bag.  His friends behind him are rings which I assume to be gumball prizes.

I know I've blogged about one of these peeping skeletons before. Specifically, this one.

This one was gifted to me by long-time reader and longer-time friend, FrankO.  I still remember being fascinated with him in high school (the skeleton, not FrankO, although he was interesting too).

The back of the newly-found peeping skeleton has a manufacturer's country mark of "Rahan".  I know the world's geography has changed greatly in the last 50 years, but I've never heard of "Rahan".  The only "Rahan" I could find was this one, and I'm pretty sure Ireland wasn't cranking these things out. I'm wondering if it's a misprinted "Japan", although that seems pretty hard to believe.

The other skeleton I have is marked "Hong Kong".

These would have originally been sold through comic books, novelty shops and probably handed out at at carnivals.

As pointed out by Dex in the comments, these are actually still available at Dollar General stores.  I picked up a few packs a couple weeks ago to hand out with the candy bars this Halloween.  Maybe it will make an impression on some little kid like mine did so many years ago.

  5. I know in the past I've seen these little guys in Dollar Store bags of plastic trick or treat toys too. I do love the original packaging though.

    1. You're right, Dex. Someone told me abuot that and I did found them there. They only come in green, orange, and purple though. No white. I meant to mention that.
