Escape to Christmas

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate today.  And even if you don't celebrate, I think you'd still enjoy a visit to The Escape Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale for a Christmas dinner, circa 1950's. All for the paltry sum of $3.50. Bon Appetit!

Whenever I see "Waldorf Salad" I can only think of the Fawlty Towers episode of the same name, and hear the American guest rattling off the ingredients to John Cleese.

The Escape was built by George Gill Jr., a Florida developer, and opened for business on New Years Eve of 1949. It was the first in the area to open year-round and feature an Olympic-sized pool.

The Escape closed in the 1980's and was converted to an assisted living facility.  That too closed in 2010.  Last word in 2015 was it had been purchased to be renovated as a hotel and residences.

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and here's to 2022 and more saling fun and finds.

    1. If you like Piña Coladas, not to mention taking walks in the rain, you're in the wrong decade. You want the '70s, just ahead.

  2. Love the image of Santa on the cover! What a great menu and a fun place! Bet there's a high rise there by now.
