Today we have a napkin to go with our paper plate. Another purchase from the same sale, this napkin predates the plate by at least 20 years. While the witch interpretation is cuter than scary, the style of art dates it to no later than the 1950's. I love the Jack O' Lantern and demonic cat. It leaps into the scene seemingly bowling our little witch over.
Now that I'm looking at it, it's a little like modern art: is above the correct orientation, or is this?
The interior of the napkin has another cat graphic, this one much sleeker.
Perhaps it's the same cat and has had its legs bound with ribbon to stop its disruptive pouncing.

Love the style of the art on the little witch on this one. the buckle on the shoes, and her hair style are fantastic, along with her Betty Boop-style eyes and mouth.
ReplyDeleteIncredible artwork! What's the market like for these? I know if this exact artwork were on a nice vintage postcard it would sell for $40 or maybe more
ReplyDeleteI don't think I paid more than a few dollars for it, but you're absolutely right on postcard values.
DeleteLove it, too. Frame that baby!
ReplyDeleteI need to buy more Halloween napkins. And plates. And cups.
ReplyDeleteI think the second orientation looks correct. I love it - very cute and a very good find.
