Have a Hazardless Holiday

I found a set of 8 of these paper placemats at a recent sale.  Produced by the Women's Committee on Safety and the Long Lines Dept of AT&T, they present amusing tableaux for most of the holiday seasons (sorry Valentine's Day). Despite the title and obvious intent, they tell you absolutely nothing about how to keep the holidays safe.

I couldn't find anything about the Women's Committee of Safety, but AT&T Long Lines were the first wireless system used to transmit long distance phone calls using microwave towers.  They were retired in the 1980's, replaced by satellite transmission, but you can still see them dotting the countryside.

I couldn't find any information on the artist, Benedetti, but enjoy some of these close-ups.

  1. This is fabulous! I recently bought a small stack of paper placements from the 1970s. Who kept these things? And why did we buy them. They're a wonderful time capsule though, aren't they? Especially if they are free of mustard and ketchup stains.

    1. I'm not sure what the purpose of these were. The AT&T Long Lines tie in with The Women's Committee on Safety? Were they handouts? Used at an AT&T company party?
