While out garage saling last weekend, I stumbled onto an unadvertised estate sale in my childhood hometown (which isn't saying I took some long drive. I only live about 5 minutes away from where I grew up). The sale was at the home of a family my family knew and in fact only lived about 1/4 of a mile from our home.
The last person to live in the house was one of the sons of the family. He had been into hot rodding cars since the 1960's and a lot of items were hot rod related.
While looking through a box of cast metal plaques, I came across this one (actually, I found two of them).
He could be Frankenstein's monster, but frankly (ha!) he looks more like Herman Munster. I like that his neck bolts are pistons. The fact that Herman was known for hot rodding his own cars adds to the likelihood this is actually Herman.I wasn't familiar with the use of plaques for hot rods, but apparently it was a thing. Hot rod clubs would create their own and affix them to their cars to identify themselves with the club.
I'm not sure what the name of this club could have been. "Herman's Hot Rods"? "Munsters' Maniacs"? "Frankie's Fanatics"? "Monster's Muscle Cars?" "Shelley's Chevelles"?

I often visit Marlow, where Mary Shelley finished writing Frankenstein.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! That's really cool!
DeleteWhat a fun blast from the past. I enjoyed learning about the Munsters cars. My money is on Herman's Hot Rods.
