Between the Covers - The Black Hole Coloring Book

First off, let me apologize for letting the grass grow so high on this blog.  It's been 2 months since my last post.  Rest assured, garage and estate saling have continued throughout this time and many things have been bought.  I just haven't had the time (and admittedly the enthusiasm) to blog about them.  But let's change that now.

Allow me to explain the title of this post.  Back in 2017, I started what I intended to be an ongoing and occasional post topic.  I picked this topic back up a few years later with this post.  These posts are about things I find inside of books. Usually, it's a bubblegum card, a makeshift bookmark, occasional writing, etc.  Here we are a couple years later and I'm once again exploring this topic.

A couple weeks ago, I estate saled at a hoarder house. I picked up some books including this Black Hole coloring book.

This post isn't about the colored pages in this book (although, that can be arranged), it's about what I found stored in the book; printed on a dot matrix printer, the rules for a club called "G.R.O.S.S." along with a couple other printed pages.

Anyone familiar with the comic strip "Calvin & Hobbes" knows about G.R.O.S.S.  It seems the previous owner of this coloring book took it to heart and formed his own club.

I like the detail into which the (assumed) president of the club goes, although the "Club Motto" seems a little redundant.

I do love that the club location was "WOODS/BOAT".  I remember having clubs with neighbor kids that met in locations like that, although we used a neighbor's camper.

I'm not sure why there are both "Club Gun" and "Club Weapons" categories..  And man, "STICKS!".  These kids weren't fooling around.

One has to wonder who "Shell Lady" was and how she made the "Enemies" list.  Did she work at a gas station?  Did she sell seashells by the seashore?

I wonder what Brook & Chris did to earn "Most Hated" status.

It's nice they have a Club Rock (Sand Stone).  Hopefully, that's not another "Club Weapon".

The Club Saying is a bit baffling. "TAKE CARE OF NATURE".  Is that genuine concern for our planet's health, or simply another threat?

And let's wrap it up with an upside down girl head.

Next up, it's "Ninja Fighting Moves" (Exclamation mark)

"Special moves" (exclamation mark!  These kids love exclamation marks.)

Number 4, "Summer Salt".  As opposed to "Summer Pepper". Or "Winter Salt"? "Winter Pepper"?

"Fatality's" what?

At first I read #1 as "Spit On Person".  When you think of it, that wouldn't be a bad move.  But you'd better run quick after you do it.

I'm not sure how "Throw" results in a fatality.  Perhaps if it were followed by "off of building!".

"Normal Moves!"  Okay, if they're normal, do they really require the exclamation mark?

"Set of Moves!" (Note, there are only 2).  I'd pay to see #2.

"Exceptions" (no exclamation mark).  Apparently, there are no exceptions. Everything can be a Ninja Fighting Move.

And finally, we have rankings, presumably who is a better Ninja.  It looks like Matt is #1.  Who wants to bet Matt was the one that put this list together?

And finally, for your viewing pleasure, a space battle in dot matrix.  Man, those space backgrounds killed printer ribbons.
