Decoregger

It's time once again to dye and decorate the unborn children of our fowl feathered friends. Yes, I'm talking about Easter.

Tired of those cheap Paas tablets that turn your fingers all the colors of the rainbow?  Then might I suggest "The Decoregger" (as seen on TV!...in the '70's)

Chocolate Easter Bunny Mold

I was surprised to find this vintage chocolate Easter Bunny mold at a garage sale for $1.  These are actually fairly collectible.

Fill 'n Thrill

These "Fill 'N Thrill" eggs were made by the Peoria Plastic Company. 

They were founded in 1968, so the eggs date from some time after that. They don't appear to be in business any longer.

Easter Candy Dish

This plastic, scalloped candy dish is reminiscent of the Halloween dish I blogged previously I actually found about 5 of these at the same sale. I'm unsure of the age.

Musical Easter Egg

Other than being an egg, this toy didn't scream "Easter" when I first saw it.  Decorated with flowers and a gold finch (I think that's a gold finch), it looked more like an ode to Spring.  Turning the crank produced no music.  I thought maybe at one time it made bird sounds.

I found this Greek (as it turns out) postcard at a sale a few months ago.  Given the iconography of the egg-shaped frame and bunnies, I assumed the words meant "Happy Easter".

Hippety Hoppity, Easter's on its Way

Easter is on its way and as a child, that meant dying eggs the night before.  Actually, with children of my own, it still means that.  We were a pretty standard egg dying family and stuck with the old reliable Paas tablets. The effervescent tablets bubbling in vinegar is an image (and a smell) etched in my memory.

Comedian Patton Oswalt does a pretty funny bit about Paas Easter egg dye kits  (warning: language) and how they're the only game in town.  And though it might seem that way, it wasn't and it still isn't. 

 I found these vintage Easter Egg dye kits at the same estate sale I found the Police Circus film.  The first is Chick-Chick brand which appears to have been lost to the ages. This kit probably dates from the 1970's.

Unfortunately, the Space Station originally included wasn't present.
