Even More Glasses with Character

Way way back in 2011 and 2012, I wrote about some Pepsi character glasses I'd found.  Back then, I was paying a quarter a piece.  Those days are long gone.  I actually don't see the character glasses too often at sales and when I do, it's only one or two priced at $10 each.

Last month, I hit the motherlode of Pepsi character glasses at an estate sale.  I wish I'd gotten a photo of the glasses as they were staged at the sale as they were stacked up to 5 glasses high with duplicates. I almost went into catatonic shock.

While they were priced at $7/glass (which is still less than you pay in antique malls), there were some bargains (and one downright steal) in the mix.

I ended up with these.

McHalloween

My daughter and I were browsing through some vintage Halloween-themed commercials on Youtube a few weeks ago when we came across this commercial from 1986.

Leftovers Day 8 -- Dog 'n Suds

I'm starting to see a pattern with the things I buy at garage sales. A lot of them stem from things I always wanted, but didn't have as a kid.  Today's offering is no different.

Crankenburger

Recently, I bought a 45 record at an estate sale just because of the sleeve it was in.  Well, not really because of the sleeve, but because of what was on the sleeve.

Smoke in the Box

I found a stack of vintage Jack in the Box ashtrays at an estate sale about a month ago.  I'm not a smoker, nor have I ever been a big fan of Jack in the Box, but vintage fast food items are of interest to me and I recall similar stamped foil trays being in other fast food restaurants I did frequent.  I believe I paid 50 cents for all of them.

I believe this logo dates these trays from the late to the early '70's.

Incrediburgible!

One Saturday of every month in the late '70's, my mom, sisters and I would head out to a local retail center called Franview Plaza here in south St. Louis County. It housed a Rexall Drugstore, where I bought comics, a Ben Franklin, where I bought my candy, a barbershop, where I would receive the occasional haircut, a P. N. Hirsch department store, where my mother bought my awful yet unstylish clothes, and finally, perhaps most importantly, a Burger Chef.
