Anti-Gravity House

While looking for a travel brochure requested by a reader (sorry, Greg, still haven't found it), I decided I needed to get a handle on my (frighteningly) vast collection of ephemera, so I gathered it all up and started categorizing and scanning them (look for some coming your way in the near future). While doing so, I came across this brochure for "Marine Life" in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Raid Frisbee

Just a few days ago, I was reminiscing about a Raid Ant and Roach Killer store display rack over at Mr. Karswell's place (okay, his blog. Not like I was hanging around his house).  We had one of those racks in our basement for years.  My father was an A&P grocery store employee from the 1940's through the early 1970's and had brought it home with him at some point, most likely the '60's based on the graphics. I'm not sure why the store would let him take the rack home, but I was a kid and wasn't about to ask any pointed questions.  At any rate, we used it for years for storing our bought and home-canned food supplies, which always struck me as odd considering it had previously stored pesticides.

Then yesterday while shopping at an estate sale in Maplewood, Missouri, I found this 1975 Wham-O Frisbee premium tie-in with Raid and Off! I'll admit, the coincidence isn't mind-blowing, but still weird.

Everybody Loves a Clown, So Why Don't We?

At the same sale I bought the toaster in my previous post, I found this Mattel Jack in the Box featuring some of the most horrifying clown images I've encountered.  I have to admit, I bought it solely to scare my youngest daughter (Yeah, I'm that kind of dad.  Hey, she's old enough to take it!)

For years, I have driven past a house on my way home from work that I have entertained (if only wishfully) I would some day own. It's located in an old neighborhood (turn of the last century) of homes called "Webster Park" in Webster Groves, one of the earliest suburbs in the St. Louis area. Despite being an upscale (read expensive) area, the amount of repair on the home gave me a glimmer of hope it would be affordable when it did come on the market.  Seeing this picture on the estatesales.net listing gave me hope that it would soon be for sale.
