Up Your Nose, This Song Really Blows

A couple weeks ago I featured an album by John Travolta. It seems fitting I would find this 45 a week later.

I'm not gonna lie. It's awful.

This is the rare case with a 45 where the B side is actually better, if only slightly. One of the reasons it's better is that it's only a little more than 2 minutes long.

The record did chart on the Billboard 100, although it barely made it at #93.

After "Welcome Back Kotter", Gabe Kaplan made a few appearances in "Battle of the Network Stars" and attempted a comeback in the series "Lewis & Clark" in which Kaplan's character longs to own a Country Music club (?). The series was cancelled after 8 episodes.

In 1978, Kaplan began a lucrative professional poker career which continues today and has earned him millions of dollars over the years.  He continues making stand-up appearances.

  2. I remember seeing him while flipping past ESPN sometime in the late 80s, hosting some kind of sports quiz show.

    1. I was going to say the same thing! My family first got cable in 1987, and the first few months we had it I came across Kaplan hosting the game show NFL Match-Up on ESPN. He looked different from his Kotter days, and a football-themed game show on ESPN was the last place I expected to see him. It was weird!

  3. "Julie, did I ever tell you about my Uncle Tom Kotter who was a garage sale enthusiast?"

    "(WEARILY) No, Gabe."

"Okay, one Saturday, Uncle Tom attended a garage sale, and saw a huge, brand-new TV for only $1.00!"

"(FEIGNING INTEREST) Wow! Only $1.00? What did he do?"

"I'll tell you what he did--He asked the man running the sale, 'Is that huge, brand-new TV really just $1.00? What's the catch?'
And the man said, 'Well, the volume control is stuck on high, and it's always going to be super loud!'
So Uncle Tom said, 'Hey,I can't turn that down!'"

  4. Wonder who's decision it was to use that "Brady Bunch" font on the cover? And with hippie daisies, yet.

    1. I thought the same thing. At the sleeve design meeting:
      What do we have?
Gabe's Face and the title of the song "Up Your Nose"
      Anything else?
We could throw some daisies on the letters...
      Sounds good. PRINT IT!
