When I found this footless Pez this past year, I thought maybe he was a gorilla and was missing an eye. As it turns out, he's actually known as "The One-Eyed Monster".
He was in a bag with a Hulk footless Pez for $15. I knew both together were worth more than that, so I picked them up. I had quite a few other things, so the seller gave me a discount which essentially resulted in getting the Pezs free.Pez dispensers started getting "feet" in 1987; the footless variety are more collectible. This particular Pez began production in 1970. Further dating can be done by the patent number. If the Patent Number reads: 2,620,061 then it was produced from 1952-1968. If the Patent Number reads: 3,410,455 (which is on mine) then it was produced from 1968-1974. So my Pez dates between 1970 and 1974.
While the Pez craze of the 90's and early 2000's has cooled somewhat, they are still collectible with this example bringing $60 regularly on eBay.

I always preferred the footless ones -- not that i knew that was the term for them. i've never seen one like this. No wonder it's collectible!
ReplyDeleteGood eye and a nice Pez pickup! I didn't know about the feet thing, but then again I never researched these -- I only ate the candy. :) ..... So I guess One-eyed Monster is just an original design, and not based off any movie terror. Pretty cool, honestly!
ReplyDeleteNot based on anything to my knowledge, but it is just a recast of their gorilla minus one eye.
DeleteI can remember having some footless Pezs in the '80s. I think they were Loony Tunes characters. Only have a couple of footed R2-D2 ones these days
ReplyDeleteThere was a brief period in the 90's when I collected Pezs as well, mainly due to the Seinfeld episode with Tweety.
DeleteI agree with you - it does look like a gorilla with a missing eye!
ReplyDeleteThere's a reason for that I didn't mention. Pez did just recast a gorilla pez minus an eye for this piece.
DeleteThis is my favorite item. It's great.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it, Musiklover!
