I picked up this blow mold earlier this year. I "paid up" for it. I think I spent $12 for it. While that's probably cheaper than you'd pay on eBay (plus shipping), I used to get blow molds like this for $1.
It probably dates from the 1960's, but I've been unable to identify the manufacturer.
It has dancing skeletons on the base that remind me of the Silly Symphonies cartoon "The Skeleton Dance".
This blow mold also reminds me of another I have that I remember from my childhood. My grandparents had the one below. It was their only Halloween decoration.
Oddly enough, it took me years to realize there was a cat under the Jack O' Lantern. I guess my eyes were always drawn to the Jack O' Lantern itself.
Your blow molds are cute as they can be but I agree, you do pay up for them these days. Still they bring a nice vintage feel to the haunt.
ReplyDeleteDespite the rising price, they still don't get a lot of respect in the Halloween Antiques collecting world, but I think that will change now that so many blow mold companies have gone out of business and these get older.
DeleteSweet piece, tho! Definitely worth $12 to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joe. Yeah, obviously I thought so too. :)
Deleteman, $12? that explains why i don't see them in the thrifts anymore.
ReplyDeleteThey're on to us.
DeleteI definitely had that second one as a kid, loved it!
