The Monsters Go Disco

I often lament to my kids as we stroll down the cereal aisle how the magic of cereal is gone. Time was every box in the aisle touted prizes and mail-in orders. They were full of sugar and hope and we loved them for it.

This flexi disc was found on the back of the various General Mills Monster cereals back in 1979.  We know it's 1979 not only because of their design, but because they are going to the Disco.

Thankfully, someone has already posted this record to Youtube saving me the task.  I should note, one of the voice is attempting to sound like Wolfman Jack but is decidedly not.

Interestingly, back in the 1990's, I got a cd from a package of monster cereal (Count Chocula, I'm sure).  It had 9 tracks on it.  The first 8 were mostly silly, but the 9th was actually a decent old school Halloween sound effect track.  I have it ripped to mp3 and play it every year as part of my exterior sound effects.

  1. Your right - everything was disco in the late seventies!

  2. it's so weird, because by 1979 disco was DEFINITELY on the way out. talk about late to the trend! and anyway, where's Fruit Brute? NO FRUIT BRUTE, NO PEACE!

    1. He had already moved on to New Wave with Yummy Mummy.

  3. We finally picked this out last year! Love it even tho newer players do not like it as much thankfully we have an older record player that worked just fine.

  4. Yummy Mummy! bah -- he was Fruit Brute's replacement. I don't think they would get along too well.

  5. I love these records! Thanks for sharing!

  6. Glad you and those like you are here to archive these pieces of the past!
