Trick 'n Treat!

Well this is it, the night of nights.  31 days of preparation have all lead up to this.  And we know what "this" is.  It's all about "Trick or Treating".  Or is it "Trick-r-Treating".  Or is it "Tricker Treating".  Or is it "Trick 'n Treating" as these die cuts say.  Either way, it's all about the candy.  Grab your bucket and let's all walk up to the haunted house.

This set of Trick 'n Treaters was created by Peck in the 1970's.  The question the children should be asking is, are the ghosts tricking or are they treating?

That's one angry looking clown.

According to this kid's hat(mask?), it's "Tricks or Treats".

The house isn't actually the one that goes with this set, but it works.  The colors are a bit skewed in this scan due to their reflective properties.

This is the house that actually goes with the set (not mine, or I'd be using it, obviously).

There are also more die cuts that go with this set, as found on the internet.

And what bucket will I be taking up to the house tonight?  Well, normally, I'd take my childhood Jack O' Lantern, but just last week I found this Monster Candy bucket by Empire and I'm quite taken with it.

Isn't that a face only a mother (monster) could love?  It's not terribly old.  It was made by Empire from 1989 to 1993.  I really need to stop saying 1989 wasn't that long ago.  But back to this bucket.  What he lacks in brains, makes for a nice cavity to fill with candy.

Empire, once one of the premiere blow mold manufacturers, while still in business, stopped making blow molds in 2001, selling their molds to General Foam, a former rival blow mold manufacturer.  General Foam closed its doors in 2017.

Well folks, that is it for this year's edition of Stranger Finds and concludes my participation in this year's Countdown to Halloween.  I hope I've added some seasonal joy, stirred some memories and provided a smile or two.  And remember, don't ding dong ditch the other bloggers. Take your treat bucket over to the Countdown and see what they're handing out.  It will be their treat.

  1. Tsk-tsk...Just look at all that cultural appropriation.

Really like the "constipated Moe Howard" bucket.

    1. Now if I can just find the Larry and Curly. The Shemp is a poor substitute.

    1. It's been a fun one. Thanks for doing the Countdown along with me. I did finish up the house today and we welcomed about 80 kids, so it was a big success. Here's to next year!

    2. 80 kids? wow. we had exactly TWO kids. we were expecting it to be a busy night, since last year was cancelled for COVID, but it turned up bupkis, so now we've got pounds of candy left over (not entirely a bad thing). pretty sure that the more well-to-do neighborhood a few blocks west of us hoovered up all all the local kids -- they have permission from the city to close a picturesque street, and parents like that from a safety standpoint, and the 100+ year old homes and occasional vintage mansions don't hurt for ambience. more dimly-lit little working class neighborhoods like ours just can't compete.

  3. another solid countdown for the history books -- thanks, Tom!

these die-cuts have a serious Peanuts vibe for me. too cutesy for my taste. that kid in the native headdress makes me cringe! no candy bucket for me. i always brought a pillow case -- sturdier, and it held MUCH more.

    1. They do have that '70's Peanuts vibe, you're right.
I never did the pillow case. Always had my trusty Jack O' Lantern pail. I only Trick or Treated my street and the houses were fairly spaced out and not everyone participated, so I never had trouble with capacity. Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween Tom, and thanks for all the great posts!
